I have just placed an order for a solitare diamond ring for a proposal. The diamond is VS1, F, 'premium' proportion and 0.63 carats.
For a further £500 ($1000) I have the option to upgrade to a diamond of the same clarity, cut and colour but which is 0.72 carats.
My question is, is this a sensible use of money? When set in a ring is one obviously 'better' than the other. My girlfriends finger is US size four so she is pretty small, and she is a junior doctor so can't have a diamond that sticks out too much...
I guess if I do decide to change I need to let the jewellers know soon!
(I would probably spent the saved cash on a weekend to Paris to pop the question...)
Any advice gratefully received.
