i went to have diamonds tested.the man touched the tip of the device to the stone to verify its real.could you explain how this works because he couldnt.thanks richard

Diamonds conduct heat better than anything else on earth. Most of the simulants are terrible at this. The probe is measuring this.

Synthetic Moissonite is also a pretty good heat conductor and some of those probes will show a false positive with this material but otherwise they work well.
