I just found a round cut loose stone in a parking lot. It scratches glass. Is it a diamond?
Is it a diamond?

Scratching glass is a terrible way to test a stone.. Glass only has a hardness of 5.5 on the mohs scale.. CZ is about an 8.5, sapphire is around a 9 and diamond is a 10.. So even a CZ will scratch glass..
If you look inthe FAQ section of the forum you will see some basic tests you can try at home..

besides from the fact, just because you find something, it doesn't mean its yours.

Of course it isn't mine. I would never keep something like this. I just wanted to know if the stone may be valuable. If so, I will go about finding the owner. Thank you for your replies. After seaching for information and examining the stone, I don't think it is a diamond. I may take it to my jeweler just to be sure.
