I am thinking about trading in an old engagement ring. I believe it was purchased for approximately $8-$10,000 ten years ago. It is 1 1/4 ct platinum setting. THe jeweler that I have been talking to says that it was laser drilled and he can only give me $3,000 for the ring. Is this in the right ballpark?

No one will be able to give you an accurate guess without actually seeing the diamond itself.. It may or may not be laser drilled, the clarity and color may or may not be accurate, it may be poorly cut.. All of these things contribute to the value of a diamond.. If you want a hard number, have it reappraised by a local appraiser and then use those numbers to negotiate with your jeweler..
