I am planning on buying an engagement ring, a round diamond in a Tiffany setting.

Here are the specs:

GIA cert.
Carat = 1.02
Color = G
Clarity = VS1
Cut = Ideal (per store)
Depth = 61.3
Table = 55
Symmetry = EX
Polish = VG

Originally for 6990 getting a discount for 6600.

The diamond looks great in person (after looking at about 15 or so diamonds).

The price is high for me, but rather go past my budget of 6 to get a good diamond. They said they would look for a lower priced diamond in the ideal cut. I am especting a call tomorrow, the store is a very respectfull and friendly, no pressure.

Is this diamond a guy buy? I feel i am paying alot and should get a VS2 or SI1 instead.

P.S. They had this great F, ideal cut, VS1, 1.20 for 5600 I think with medium strong fluorescence... As a guy I would love a glow in the dark stone :P

Which of your "depth" numbers is actually the table? I'm assuming the second one is actually the table, which would appear, at least to my amateur eye, to be slightly smaller than it should be.

Overall, it doesn't sound like a bad stone or a bad price, at least according to the "find online jeweler" link above.
