Hi everyone,

I'm getting to take the plunge and I'm need of your opinion. Please tell me if I've been had or I have an OK deal on my hands. Time's a factor as always... Oh, and I already bought it ;)

EGL Cert:
.96CT
shape/cut: emerald step
measurements: 6.19x4.72x3.80
depth: 80.50%
table: 71%
crown: 15.80%
pavilion: 63.50%
girdle: thin to medium
cutlet: none
polish/symmetry: G/G
clarity: SI1
color: F
fluorescence: none

It's in a platinum setting and i haggled it down to $3628.00 (they were asking 5400 originally)

If I paid too much what do you think a fair price for this would be?

Thank you so much!

Bright red flag on the proportions. Check out the chart below:

http://www.diamond.info/diamonds/diamonds_4cs_cut5.shtml

which would put your stone, relative to the depth%, in the worst category, "below average" 4B.

The diamond is indeed deep. Above all, you are paying for weight you cannot see. The diamond will look smaller than a 0.96ct with better proportions.

Thank you very much for your input. Would I be actually better off taking it back and getting one from a reputable online dealer? My budget is $4K and I want to get a D thru F, asscher, radiant or emerald cut in a platinum setting. Would you be so kind as to tell me what I should expect in terms of a good value ~ 1CT?

Here are a few I'm considering:

Any recommendations much appreciated.

wfn,

If you haven't already done so, you can run a search of your parameters by clicking on "find online jeweler" tab at the top of the page. Compare the diamonds that you are considering to those listed (keeping cut/depth in mind) and you should get a pretty good idea of a reasonable price.

Also keep in mind the various policies that vendors offer in terms of money back guarantee, shipping, information, etc.

I wish you all the best with your engagement. ;)
