I'm looking at two emerald cut stones:

Here are specs:

Weight: 1.55 ct
Color: G
Clarity: VS1
Depth: 64.0%
Table: 66%
Culet: none
Polish: VG
Symmetry: G
Price $15,250

Weight 1.55 ct
Color: E
Clarity: VVS1
Depth: 62.5%
Table: 67%
Culet: small
Polish: VG
Symmetry: G
Price 18,100

I am interested in opinions on the price, please. Would the second warrant almost $3K more in price. If you need any more info, let me know. I have a copy of the GIA report.

Thanks in advance.

Rchallen,

The depth and table numbers look like a great start, but both of those prices seem very high for their respective sizes and quality.

Do you have the measurements? Just checking to see if the stones are more squarish or the classic longer emerald.

Yes, stone one (the "cheaper" one) is
8.05 x 5.81 x 3.72 mm

The more expensive stone is:
8.28 x 5.73 x 3.58 mm

A price recommendation would be helpful for negotiations. They are a local reputable "high-end" jeweler, so would expect some premium, but I don't want to get ripped off either.

Many thanks.

Lastly, the less expensive stone has a medium to slightly thick girdle vs. the more expensive stone having a very thin to medium girdle. Not sure if that has any bearing.

RChallen,

The measurements and girdles are fine. Unless you think you can negotiate several thousands of dollars off those prices then you are going to pay typical retail. If you want to see what something comparable would sell over the internet, check a few websites.

I can think of two that come to mind right away :)
