Hi..
I currently have a 1.07C diamond but I'm looking to upgrade to a slightly bigger size. Can you tell me what it means for a 1.17 with a wider spread? Is that a bad thing? I have a feeling of what wider spread means but is that just because the stone is a tad bigger? I don't want it to lose its brilliance, I mean, it won't look ridiculous and won't lose any features would it? Its an F SI1. I don't have the dimensions yet.. but what should I look for or what should I shy away from?
Is this generally a bad thing? the widerspread..
Thanks!!!
Wider Spread

They probably mean a shallower cut , but that's not enough information to make a wise decision. Did you get to see the other stone? You might want to look at it before you upgrade to make sure you aren't compromising size for quality.

Hi Jan..
The only difference as of right now from what I was told is the color.. I currently have an F SI1 and the heavier stone is a G SI1.
Still not enough info I take it.. Since you won't be there with me at the store when I make a decision, what are somenumbers I should try to stay around.. depth? if it makes a difference, measurements? etc...

I wish it would be that easy to just spit out some numbers and have it work, unfortunately the numbers don't tell all. If you are going to see it, then look at the stone and make sure you like the look or overall brilliance of the diamond as compared to the one you have already. Also make sure you look at it under the microscope and make sure it has a GIA or AGS lab report on the color and clarity as well. If you get more info, you could post it here and we can see if we can help.

As far as looks wise, no, but price wise yes. The diamonds are color graded upside down against a white background under a microscope next to color comparison stones. You probably won't see a difference face up.
