Diamond.Info is proud to formally announce the Verified Jeweler program.
This program serves to recognize the Bona-Fide jewelers in the industry who contribute to our community and who have proven their credentials, ethics, reputation, and good standing in the industry and in the community.
In order for a jeweler to become a Verified Jeweler, s/he must provide to us:
1. copies of their education credentials,
2. JBT number, which verifies their credit rating within the jewelry industry
3. verification of their business address
4. verification of a certain level of business with well-known jewelry suppliers
Members of the Verified Jeweler program have a special logo next to their profile on every message they post.
If you are a jeweler and would like to apply for the program, please Contact Us. Applying is quick and there is no cost.
This topic is open, and comments/suggestions/discussion to improve this program are most welcomed!

Herman,
Good plan.
Will there be an index or some kind of search to allow users to locate one of the verified jewelers in their neighborhood? If you can do it, I'm sure people would love to be able to search for comments by or about the various jewelers.
Not to be self serving, but what about us appraisers and the labs? I'm not sure I would even qualify as a verified jeweler because I'm not JBT listed as such. It's a curious problem. I used to be listed when I was retail but since I don't buy or sell diamonds or jewelry, I don't have an account with any of the vendors who sell that kind of thing. JBT has no interest in me. Suggestion?

There's no reason we also can't have "Verified Appraiser". However, what would you suggest would be the criteria for getting verified/certified?

hermann,
I'll have to think about that for a bit. What comes to mind is:
1) Current credentialed membership in one or more of the major appraisal organizations (AGS, ASA, ISA, NAJA)
2) GG, FGA, FCGMA, FGAA, etc.
3) At least introductory appraisal training (offered by all of the above societies and a few others, not including the offerings from J-bar or GIA).
I'll be happy to work with you to develop a system. I've actually been putting some thought into this whole area and there needs to be a reasonable online registry of appraisers. How are your php skills?
I'll also be happy to help develop a tutorial about selecting and using an appraiser. There really should be a box at the top titled 'find an appraiser'.
