I know this is purely according to one's taste, however, I am having a pretty difficult time deciding what setting to select for my to-be's enagagement ring. The diamond I selected is a 1.02ct princess cut. My slections are between the v-shape setting or a box setting with bar across. Please takle a look at the pics below for a better idea of what I am talking about.

What is a more common or popular setting for a princess cut stone. Does the bar on the box setting serve a purpose or is it purely for design?

Box Setting (If that's what it's called)

V-shaped prongs are designed to protect the points. Other type of prongs should have grooving on the inside to protect the points.

Personally I like the boxier setting for a princess cut...at least that's what I've chosen for mine. But also because it protects the corners of the diamond better and they are the "weakest" if that's the right word, point. (Or should I say "points, since there are 4) :D

Also, I like that the setting echos the shape of the diamond which to me makes the ring appear a little more dramatic.
