HI,
I'm wondering why one jeweler offered me $800 and another $150 for trade.
GIA certified .36 G VS1, Depth 56.4% and table 67%. They say that because of the table it will be hard to sell, but personally I think its a beautiful diamond and because of the table it looks more like a .5 . Anyway why the big difference?
Thanks,
Julia

Much depends on the jeweler's specific market.
The $150.00 dollar offer is obviously dealing with clientele that prefer a cut that is closer to 60:60 table/depth. Your diamond is a spready-shallow stone that the jewler cannot move.

Julia,
Be careful with trade-in values. It's important to understand how the stone you are trading for is priced. $800 is significantly more than the store would be paying on the usual wholesale market for that stone. The only reason they would make such an offer is if they are getting it back somewhere else in the deal. Look at the merits of the whole deal, not just the number quoted for the trade-in.

Are you buying another stone or some other piece of jewelry as part of the trade-in? That may account for the $800 offer which appears a little high.
