How popular are Gabrielle cut diamonds? How difficult are they to find and approximately how much do they cost for stones in the 2.5 to 2.99 carat weight?

popular is an interesting choice of words here.......simply because Gabrielle cut diamonds are relatively few and far between. I think if they were around more and seen by the 'average punter' then they'd probably be well liked, and are increasing in popularity. However there aren't many, so not many sell!
Basically it's another modified brilliant cut - I believe named after the guy who perfected it and it has tons and tons of facets (105?).
As a result it's supposed to be very showy and 'light'. Personally (and this is a personal and not professional opinion) I dont much like them. I find the facets are so thin that instead of getting sparkling scintillation you tend to get much more 'flash' reflection...leading to apparent inclusions (which arent there but the stone often dark spots a little) and frequently a dark centre to the stone. (That doesnt mean that if you like them you should worry about my opinion and lots of other trade people think they're great)
They aren't re-sold by lots of people as they're currently a heavily marketed cut - so the distributors limit the outlets allowed to sell them - so expect to pay a premium for this 'wonder cut'.........so more than a comparable round brilliant of the same weight - you can find prices for thes using the cost calaulator available through this site.
cheers

As night indicated the Gabrielle is cut and sold by the great Gabrielle Towlkowsky, one of the world's great diamond cutters. It is cut with extra facets to produce greater scintillation. Supply is very limited and the price is mucho high.
I believe only high-end retail B&M stores here in the USA carry it.

You may also want to compare it to other stones as well to *see *if you think it is worth the premium in price.
I believe they are cut deeper than the normal diamonds with additional faceting on the pavilion side, so it may look smaller for the weight.
