What are the differences in price that I should expect to pay between a wholesaler and a retailer? I know there are different stores out there, some wholesale some retail. If I went to a wholesaler, how much cheaper should a diamond be from a retailer? Thanks!

Wholesale means that it was sold to a store or other user that intends to resell the stone again. Nothing more, nothing less.
If someone sells a stone to you and you are the end user then it is retail no matter what price you paid for it.
You need to really learn about diamonds and how they are priced by quality ( the 4 C's) You should buy the diamond based on what you learn. Start by reading different diamond tutorials. Don't get hung up on words such as Wholesale. That is how I see alot of consumers get ripped off.
Good luck shopping.

I could not agree more with this comment from Jan.
Fact is, many people in the industry consider the use of the word "Wholesale" unethical, when one is engaged in selling to the public. So, in a sense, if a jeweler is using the word "wholesale" to try to lure you in, some level of caution is warranted.

However, you will find that some retailers are less expensive tahn others. Take internet retailers - they work on such small mark-ups compared to most mall retailers or even family run jewelry stores. If you are price conscious, you may want to consider looking on the web for better prices.
