how come I don't see a lot of certs like GIA and EGl for diamond earrings. Mostly they seem to be for rings. Shouldn't earring be certed too?

good question....probably cos it's relatively uncommon (relative to rings and pendants) to have big valuable diamonds in earrings? I honestly dont know...bet Jan or Rock do though!

Let's say you have a pair of 0.50ct diamond stud earrings for $599. You send them to GIA ($15 shipping) for certification. Once you have them certified in about a month ($75 per diamond) you have to get them shipped back. ($15 shipping).

So, let's do the math. $599 + 15 + 75 + 75 + 15 = $779. That's around 25%+/- extra. If it's a $3000 diamond it works out around 5%. Then it's not so bad.

We do sell earrings with lab reports as well for our clients if they request it. Mostly in ideal cut and higher quality stones though. Last week I sold a pair of .85 ct. total weight VS2 H ideal cut diamonds set in 14kt yellow screw back posts with full reports. We also do a 100% upgrade on our earrings as well as our engagement rings. The diamonds are up next to her face and will be seen even more than a ring so we do recommend to our clients to get beautiful stones versus just something dull and large. If you have any special requests we can make them as well and have many types of settings to choose from.

so is laser inscription the same thing? doe s that weaken the stone too?

Stones can also be laser inscribed and many times already are if they are smaller stones graded by GIA. They automatically inscribe them with a dossier lab report. It doesn't weaken the stone.
