Hi Guys!
I've been looking at diamonds. I'm a reseach fanatic. And I've seen a bunch of diamonds under the loupe. Many of them have black spots in them. I know these are called inclusions. How critical are they? I mean I can't see them without a scope so neither can anyone else. But do they actually hurt the diamond? In the price ranges I'm looking for, a LOT of the stones have these little black spots. Is that normal? Anyone? Thanks!!

They are usually crystals in the diamond. Sometimes they don't show up while the stone is clean, but if you get a soap scum on the diamond they may show up to the naked eye later on. You might want to keep shopping until you find one that you really like if it bothers you. It is possible to get stones without them.

There are many kinds of inclusions in diamonds but you state that these black spots you are seeing can only be detected with magnification. If the stone is eye clean than these inclusions whether they are wisps, veils or black inclusions have no effect on the durability of the diamond. There are many diamonds without these blck carbon spots and if you are bothered by them even though they are visible only under magnification then keep looking and you'll find a stone with out them.
