Can anyone tell me the history of five diamond rings. I have a lovely gold five diamond ring that was originally my grandmothers. She got it as a teenager. It is beautiful but I was wonderign what is the story behind five diamond rings. thanks susan

I think you'll find that there is a little bit of symbolism as well as practicality to the history of ring giving. It wasn't until the mid 1800's that it became a popular thing for men gave their special someone a wedding ring but once it started it became a well established tradition.
On the practical side, diamonds of smaller carat weights are a little more common in nature and that equates in to more diamonds in one particular ring. Hence the 5 stone ring. Equal and spread over the top of your finger and the diamonds ending right before the other finger comes together.
That said, your grandmother must of been thought of as a very special lady to get such a gift in such times. I hope you enjoy wearing it as much as she must have.
