Hello,

I just bought an engagement ring from an internet site - www.diamond geezer.com

Like most men, I knew little about what to look for so I read up as much as I can before the buy.
I'm happy with my purchase but I am wondering about the culet.
The diamond is Internally Flawless but the IGI report says that the culet is chipped. Now all the sites I have studied say to avoid chipped culets and that it affects the overall grade of the stone.
I was not made aware of the chip before purchase.

Have I been sold a dud stone or is it possible to be both IF and chipped?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Just thought I'd add this.
This is how the stone was described to me -

Cut: BRILLIANT
Weight: 0.30cts
Colour: E: Colourless a superb stone
Clarity: IF: Internally Flawless - the best a girl can get
Flourescence: Very Slight
Polish: Very Good
Proportions & Symmetry: Very Good
Measurements: 4.23-4.27X2.70 (mm)
Certificated by: IGI

No mention of the culet.

The IGI report reads slightly different -

Measurements - 4.30 - 4.33 x 2.64
Polish - good
Flourescence - none

I piad £1363 ($2443) which included a handmade platinum ring and tax of £203 ($364).

hmm...not exactly a dud stone, but very por of the seller...I suggest you tell him you aren't happy with the fact that it's chipped as you wenre't told before purchase. As the stone was papered, then the seller has an obligation to disclose...

bear in mind...only relevant and worth worrying about if you're not intendng to keep the ring....

If this is something that you are truely unhappy about than I would sugest contacting the company that sold you this diamond to see if you can return the stone. Maybe they can offer you an exchange for a similar diamond that has not been chipped. It really depends on how much that chip bothers you. If it bothers you than I would simply contact the company that sold it to you. Good luck....

Thanks for the replies guys.

I did email expressing my concern but I shan't return the ring as I pop the question this thursday.
For the most part I was confused that the stone is classed as flawless and chipped.

Thanks again.

Depending on the size of the chip, you will probably never see any effect to the naked eye. Still, ask the bloke for thirty quid discount and take the Mrs. out for a couple of pints! B)

exellent move!

the IF - means Internally flawless - quite literally thats all. If the stone is papered as 'flawless' then it cant have any flaws inside or out...but IF just means the inside is ok! Still very underhand of the seller....

If the culet is chipped it would no longer be IF. It is possible that this chip was done after the stone got the lab report. I would probably ask for a refund. I think that one needs to be repaired and then get a new lab report. It could lose some weight in the recutting process.
