There is a lot of information out there about the diamond, but what about the different settings/styles available? Any recommendations or guides, particularly for a center stone in the 1.5ct range?

Depending on the shape of the stone, there are many options for settings.
First of all, If cost is not too much of an issue, I'd highly recommend Platinum settings. They have only 5% of impurities (Iridium, cobalt, ruthenium) as opposed to, say 18K gold, which has 25% impurities (copper, nickel, etc..)
As for settings, there are bezel settings, 1/2 bezel settings, Pave', channel, traditional prong setting, and custom settings.
As for styles, it's all a matter of taste. I'd recommend searching through various websites and visiting local shops to see what you like.
Please let me know if you need more assistance. I'm sure others will join in to help you.

Thanks for the advice!
I'm looking for something that shows off a marquise-cut 1.5ct diamond, and in terms of style, that has a bit of an "antique" feel to it but is timeless. I definitely agree with you on Platinum. Still thinking about side stones.

Wow, there is unlimited selection of settings. It is a preference that the bride might want to help on since she will be wearing it for a long time. Some like platinum, some like gold. Some like vintage some like modern. Some like side stones some like solitiaires. We carry many different designer lines and I have their catalogs linked on our site. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have if you see something you like. Here is a pretty one we did for a marquise recently.

That was a beauty that you posted! What are the variations if I wanted to stick within antique, solitaire, and platinum (or white gold), again with a marquise center stone? Do you recommend specific designers that might specialize in these types of rings?
I know that many advise that the bride be involved... but in our case, I'm very confident that I know her tastes well and want to surprise her with a complete, beautiful ring that I know she will love! At least that's the plan anyway

The most popular designer that we sell in your description is Tacori.
You can view their designs at www.tacori.com
They can make any of the styles with a marquise center because they custom make each ring to the stone size and shape and the brides ring size. If she likes a vintage look she will love Tacori and you will be a hero. :)Check out the ladybug and shamrock collections because they have marquise styles in there.
The above setting was from another designer that we carry that is also very popular. Ritani.

I used this website to find a setting. Like you I bought the diamond, then looked for a setting. We liked R8228.
