I recently purchased a Scott Kay engagement mounting, model # W902RTM/PP, a platinum ring with a trillion on each side, from Reeds jewelers. What a piece of junk. Not only is their work sloppy(Scott Kay) but the diamonds in the mounting are of such poor quality, I'm having them replaced. I special ordered the ring for a rectangular stone. I told them I wanted the mounting made so the long part of the stone would run with her finger. They told me Scott Kay does all rings that way. It was standard. The ring came in and I had the center stone set. Well, they made the head the wrong way. So they told me they could cut the head out and turn it 90 degrees and weld it back together. I told them to forget it. I'll live with it. After a couple of days of looking at this ring I notice that the head is tilted to one side. So I take the ring to a jeweler friend of mine and have him look at it. (I regret not purchasing a ring from him in the first place, But I thought I was getting quality with Scott Kay). He's tells me it would be no problem to heat up the head and adjust it. While I'm there I ask him to look at the trillions because they just don't sparkle. He looks at them and sees no major flaws, but he is also curious as to why they don't sparkle. We check the flourescene of the trillions and the room was glowing it was so strong. I went to Reeds and told them I would like the trillions replaced. Reeds told me there was nothing wrong with the trillions but if I wanted to buy new ones they would put them in. After seeing some of their settings I don't think I would want them to do anything anyway. So now I'm having them replaced by my jeweler friend and he is going to tilt the head to where is should be. I guess some designers just don't care about quality. I will never purchase anything from Scott Kay or Reeds again. Dan (DSchu75486@aol.com)

wow-that's a shame. Quite surprising considering the prices they charge. I'd be posting that everywhere.

Sorry to hear about your horrible experience, but want u
to know that I am extremely happy with my 3 Scott
Kay bands soldered together. My center band has a 2.88
Marquise cut D, VVS1, IDEAL CUT...(purchased in Antwerp),
thru a reputable jeweler), has 2 wonderful baguettes on each
side,totaling 4 w/1 round on each side(tw .80)....
the two outer bands have 3 baguettes per ring as well as
2 round(tw .55 each) Mine SPARKLE all the way around,
clear across the room, street, you name it.....
Perhaps, you got a 'lemon', and I don't want to sound
rude, but I think you are incorrect in assuming that ALL
Scott Kay is JUNK. I don't know about the ring
you bought, but I have a small finger(4) and mine is
squared on the bottom to avoid turning. I am a very PICKY
person when it comes to diamond jewelry and in most
cases I have everything custom made, but this when I saw
this particular Scott Kay piece, had to have it. I have had it
for approx. 1 week. Of course, I did not buy mine directly
from Scott Kay and any revisons made, ie: diamond head,
sizing, soldering etc:, was sent out. So, it looks like you
had problems with Reed's as well as Scott Kay. I hope every-
thing has been resolved and your fiance' is enjoying her ring for
all the trouble you encountered. Am sure it's lovely!

ps( from what I have seen, Scott Kay makes his centers to
generally accomodate round brilliant stones, but such as myself,
had made, a platinum , 4 prong, 2 on each side w/ 2 v-caps, one
on each tip to fit my marquise. LOOKS GREAT!)

Thank you! I love my Scott Kay rings as well.
This one person had a bad experience which is sad,
but I can only feel it was an isolated incident.

I find it hard to believe that Scott Kay is sloppy. I would agree with kathi5 that it has to be an isolated experience. Really sorry that it happened to you though. Are you sure that you purchased from an Authorized Scott kay Dealer [unauthorized link removed]? If not, it could be a replica. I'm sure there are a lot of those floating around.
