I just discovered the same thing on my engagement ring and am getting ready to take it in to have it checked out... never noticed it before and believe I definitely would have. Have you received any responses to your inquiry? Thanks!

You should take it back to ask them about it. It seems important and I know sometimes they can be treated, painted and filled and the spots don't show up until later so I sugest you take it in ASAP and ask.
I am no expert but it is a important purchase and should be taken care of. Good luck.

Although not desirable, it is quite possible that you can see the imperfection through the side of the stone. Diamonds are graded for clarity by looking through the top of the diamond and not the side. The imperfection can also reflect throughout the diamond and make it look worse than it actually is.

Who certified that stone?? if it's by G.I.A,E.G.L,then it's ok.If it's the store's own clarification I would ask for one of the above labs and see if the stone comes out as an Si1.
Some G.I.A,E.G.L,SI1's have these black carbon spots.you should not be able to see tham with the naked eye.
If you want to be on the safer side, drop in color and go up in clarity.
