when I mentioned to the jeweler I wanted to find a ring such as this with better stones, she said no body would put better stones in it because you could not tell in the small stones. The total weight was about 1.5 carrots. The cost is $3750. DO you think I should look for a higher quality stones, or is she right....you couldn't tell the difference.

I found a ring my girlfriend likes, it is a channel set with several smaller princess cut diamonds and several baggettes. It looks great in a Platinum band, but I am concerned about the color and clarity...H SI2

my personal opinion is that quality matters in all diamonds, regardless of size. how many stones are there exactly? are they all basically the same size? that might give you a vague idea of each stones' weight if the vendor won't tell you. the H colour grade is not bad at all, it would be very hard for people to notice it's faint colour, if they bother to look that well at all. however, you might want to go for a higher clarity grade. while an SI2 stone may be eye-clean, you guys might like slighter inclusions and better brilliance.
also, take note, does the stone have a certificate from a good, independent lab? lesser known labs are often more lenient on their grading (some are even sought after because of it) so you a H, SI2 could actually be an I,I1. if it doesn't have a certificate, then it's almost a certainty that the stated specs are at least a grade lower.

GIA is a very good diamond certificate lab.
H a great color, you should not be able to see any yellow in it at all, unless you put it next to a diamond in the colorless range.
SI2 is a little lower then i would go, but if you cant see the inclusion who cares. To be a guarantee of eye clean you should go VS2, But there are very good SI1 diamonds that are eye clean.
Dont compromise on Cut, get the best cut.
