A fascinating new exhibition, Diamonds & the Power of Love, showcases diamonds as the ultimate symbol of love and commitment from the early 8th century to the present day. In addition to the exceptional historical rings, eleven of the world's most acclaimed diamond houses have created one-of-a-kind diamond jewellery designs, exclusively for this exhibition, to express love in the 21st century.
Diamonds & the Power of Love tells the story of diamonds as the universal, unquestionable symbol of eternal love across cultures, races and religions. Indeed, the oldest known engagement ring dates back to the 15th century when Archduke Maximilian of Austria bestowed a diamond ring upon Mary of Burgundy to seal their betrothal. A replica of the original ring is part of the rare and exquisite collection of forty historical diamond rings that will be on display for two weeks at the exhibition.
In a tribute to Diamonds & the Power of Love in the 21st century, legendary diamantaires Bvlgari, Chaumet, Damiani, Escada, Fred, Graff, André Action Jackson, Mikimoto, Mouawad, Moussaieff, Repossi and Van Cleef & Arpels have each designed unique diamond jewellery to symbolise their vision of the ultimate in love and romance, as exemplified in diamonds. Over 700 carats of dazzling diamonds will be on view.
These pre-eminent jewellers will also showcase their latest collections of diamond commitment jewellery, designs that most symbolically represent love, including some of their exciting Trilogy ranges representing a couple's past, present and future together.
The spectacular international exhibition sponsored by The Diamond Trading Company debuted at the Hakone Open Air Museum in Japan in September 2002 and then travelled to the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas, opening on Valentine's Day 2003. This fantastic collection opens in Europe for it's final viewing on June 27 to July 6 2003 at the extraordinarily romantic Place Vendôme in Paris.
