HI,
I'm looking at dimonds for and engagement ring. A local jeweler showed me a "Star 129." This is a round cut with 129 facets. I have never seen or heard of this cut before. They look fantastic. Where can I find out more about the pros and cons of this cut?
The borchure is from Star Diamond Group, New York, NY

There are a lot of new cuts out currently. Extra facets don't always equate to extra light performance. But if you saw the diamond and like it and compared it to other diamonds, then go for it. Everyone has individual preferences.

I was speaking with a reputable dealer in New York who told me that the Star 129 will have a LOUSY re-sale value (heaven forbid you should ever sell your engagement ring). The reason for this is that the cut is not standard, and you will have a hard time finding people who want something that is not "standard".
But new cuts are always coming out...... prior to round brillant, the common cut was the "mined cut" which only had 50 facets. Now round brilliant is the industry leader.
