If am looking at a 1.50 carat oval diamond, and the clarity rating I am looking for is approximately vs1 or vs2, how would this diamond compare to a slightly bigger diamond, say 1.75 carat with a lower clarity rating, say SI. which would be a better option?

You would need to see the diamonds side by side to compare. There are some very nice SI1's out there and don't have clarity characteristics that can be seen with the naked eye. There are some that do have inclusions that can be made out sometimes from the side or even the top occasionally. You have to be the judge. Also the cut grade is something that can vary quite a bit from individual diamonds. I like to look for ovals with minimal bow tie myself. I would give up a clarity grade if it sparkled more and was more pleasing to my eye. :)
