Fortunately, there seems to be a plethora of information on the internet to help a consumer select the "right" diamond. What about the other part of the story? Is there any particular ring styles or special mounting techniques that bring out the brilliance of a beautiful diamond? Or are there any rings/mountings that might make a brilliant diamond look dull?

That is more of an individual choice. Some ladies like a more simple look, some like side diamonds. Some like the stone set low such as in a tension or bezel mounting, others want it up high. Get some bridal magazines or go window shopping to get an idea of your or her preferences. If a stone is very well cut , it really doesn't matter how it is set. :)
