After much research and comparison, I am considering purchasing a princess cut diamond with the following characteristics:
GIA cert
6.86 x 6.85 x 5.09
2.07 carats
depth: 74.3%
table: 73%
girdle: thick
culet: none
polish: good
symmetry: good
clarity: SI1
color: H
fluorescence: none
It's got a lot of brilliance to my untrained eye and in general I'm pretty pleased with it. Under a 10x scope it's still pretty hard to see the inclusions because of their placement (the jeweler says it could pass for a VS2). My question: the price is $10,700 and while I think that's reasonable based on my research, I'd love to hear an informed opinion. Can anyone help me? Thanks!
price help would be appreciated

It sounds like a resonable price in a jewelry store. Have you done any price comparisons online? You might want to compare.

Hi ajl34-
I am just a regular ole consumer like yourself, who has spent a lot of time doing research on diamonds. Although the price is reasonable for RETAIL, I think you could get it for a lot less some place else. Do you live near a big city that has a jewelry district? If this website (Diamond Review) is correct in their average retail prices, for your particular diamond, the average price would be $11808. At many of the jewelry districts, you can get it for 50-70% off of retail (and you can barter with them). I know that is the case at the Los Angeles Jewelry District, which is close to where I live. And I'm sure if any of the retail or supposedly wholesale online vendors see this, they will probably say that you cannot get it for that low. Well, you can!
If you don't live near a city with a jewerly district, then it may be harder to get a better price, since actually going to the facility allows you to bargain with the vendors and get the best price possible.
