I am getting ready to buy a diamond and prefer a radiant cut. What are the pros and cons of this cut over a princess cut diamond?

A radiant cut is a great looking stone, and it's not nearly as common as a princess cut. Most guys (not to slight our gender) when the go out to buy a ring, we think one thing - sparkly. And we're typically drawn to round (brilliant) cut diamonds, and anything else that has a good amount of fire to it, like a princess cut for example. The Radiant also has 70 to 74 facets on it - really catches the eye! Unlike the radiant cut and the traditional emerald cut, the princess cut (sometimes called a "quadrillion") has sharp rather than cut corners. This cut is typically square rather than rectangular. In addition, princess cuts are proportioned very differently than a well cut radiant. The princess has an extremely flat top (or "crown"), and deep bottom (or "pavilion"). This conforms to the shape of the rough diamond and allows the cutter to retain more of the original weight of the rough stone. The appearance can be quite pleasing - though very different than a Radiant Cut. The sharp corners allow princess cuts to be set side by side making them uniquely suitable for use in channel set jewelry. A princess cut must be mounted very carefully since the sharp corners can easily chip too. That's some of the pros and cons of it all. Lemme know if you have any more questions.

Hi, I'm a graduate GG that is not in the business. I Just bought a 3.03 D color SI-2 ( which was graded harsh. Should be a VS2 or SI1) Gia certified stone from a dealer on 47th street and 5th. ( Millman Diamond Corp ). After 3 months of looking I finally found the most GORGEOUS stone I have ever seen. I had bought 2 stones online previously and had a serious cut problem. Both stones I received were basically princess diamonds with the couners clipped off. The look I wanted was the cracked ice or original radiant cut style cut. I had a real hard time finding what I wanted cut wise online. Also both stones because of the cut had serious bowties ( dark marks inside the stone). I would not suggest buying this particular cut online if your looking for what I was unless they can descibe the stone to you before purchase. In other words don't buy from an online drop shipper, just someone who has the stones in their stock. A real radiant looks like cracked ice and has brilliance and fire that is UNBELIEVEABLE. The others are cut as a cut corner princess because princess is cut mainly for weight and they can conserve more of the stone and make more money off of it. Happy hunting and good luck!
