My fiance and I found the perfect round d-e vs2 1.01 ct. solitare and beautiful setting....SO the jewler says to us that the certificate is in new york and would get it for us. He said it was certified at the European gem institue.....well we were sold......I fell in love with this ring so we put 1000.00 done on the diamond and went back a week later to see the certificate,,,well the salesman showed us egi but it was an apraisal card not a cert. and now he says hes tring to get the cert. from the egi.......IS THIS A NORMAL PROCEDURE FOR RECEIVING A EGI CERT.??????

I know nothing about the "egi". But from what I understand, anything other than GIA and a few others have very poor grading systems, that I would not trust.
As far as him tracking down the certificate for you, I would simply ask for my money back and move on. Watch how hesitant he is when you ask him for your money back.

what the !@#$ is an "EGI" cert????
I'd stick with GIA or AGS. if you really, really love the stone in question then maybe -- MAYBE -- EGL. Is this what you're referring to -- EGL?
i would recommend getting your deposit back and finding another jeweler. this site has a number of nice ways of finding good jewelers through the reviews, the "find my jeweler", etc.
good luck, and let us know what you end up doing!

I would get either a AGS lab report or GIA lab report if you want a stringent grade on the diamond. It would also be helpful to get a sarin analysis and brilliancescope analysis to find out how well the stone handles light.
