My uncle wants me to buy a round cut, G,SI1, VG, 1.01 - GIA cert included for 6000 - this diamond was apparently appraised at 8500. Is this a nice diamond for the price?
Possible Mistake

Nah, I don't think that price is too good. If you look online at all, you'll find prices a LOT cheaper than what your uncle wants you to pay. I just did a quick search and found this...
Round 1.01ct, G color, SI1, GIA cert, 60% depth, 57% table, EX polish, EX symmetry, No fluoresence, Price: $4,917
as you can see, it's about $1100 cheaper than the price you posted, and it also comes with a GIA cert. That was found at http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com . They have pretty decent prices, if you can get over the name!
I just bought a diamond from DWC - Diamond Wholesale Corporation http://www.diamondwholesalecorporation.com - and it was the best experience of my life. I'm not a salesperson at all, just giving my opinion on a good experience with them. Go to their site and email them (I believe it goes directly to Yael) and she'll email you back a list of all the prices in the approximate characteristic range you sent them...and their prices are unbeatable...trust me. My diamond (loose) would easily appraise for over $10,000, and I got it for about $5500. And they're totally trustworthy - no scamming here, just good old wholesale prices. Yael is awesome to deal with. I know it's a HUGE investment - of yourself AND your money - and you want the best you can get. Well...let me tell you, you'll get the best of both with DWC. Give 'em an email...can't hurt. Let me know how you make out.
