Hi, I like the cathedral setting on the round solitaire but he says it's too much metal, taking attention away from the stone and opted for the classic tiffany solitaire setting, which is much narrower and less metal around the diamond. what are people's thoughts on this.

In my book, forget what ANYone says about the style for you. Pick out and buy what YOU like, or more importantly, what SHE likes. No doubt about it. To me, it would seem the jeweler is overstepping his bounds a bit, if he is trying to convince you to buy one style over another one. Style is an individual thing, and individuality should be encouraged, not discouraged. Look at many settings, be sure are getting a great deal, and choose exaclty what SHE likes the most.
