Hello-
After reading several other postings on this website and others, I am convinced that IGI certification is inferior to GIA certification. Do you think getting a round, ideal cut, VS1, F color ISI-certified diamond would be equivalent to a VS2, G color GIA-certified diamond (same size, fluorescence, etc.)? I am torn between getting a reduced-price diamond with IGI certification and going with somewhere with a better reputation like bluenile.com or uniondiamond.com.

IGI is over graded. Stick with a GIA cert regardless. I have seen a IGI certified H VS2 come back from GIA as a K SI2. EGL are a little better but not by much.

The reason you want a certificate in the first place, is to verify the exact quality of a diamond before you buy it, so you know what will receive. If you use a lab that has not been consistent, then you defeat the whole purpose of having a cert in the first place. Stick with GIA or AGS. The reason IGI stones are less? They are not what is stated on the cert, at least not if you compared with GIA. Stay away from IGI certs and away from stores that push IGI certs instead of GIA. Good hunting!

How much less do IGI-certified stones cost vs. AGS/GIA? Are we talking $100? $1000?

They are not the same stones, not the same quality, so you cant compare at all.
